Route studies and schematic design are the first steps of any new location construction, added capacity, or major reconstruction project. It is essential that this process is completed accurately and timely, so as not to jeopardize the design and construction of the project. L&G has successfully completed numerous route studies, developed the schematics, and pushed them through FHWA approval. An approved schematic is the springboard that the rest of the project development process needs.

A major factor in Route Studies and Schematic Design is developing preliminary alignments and layouts. During this process, public involvement is essential. L&G has held numerous public meetings in coordination with our clients (TxDOT, HCRMA, Hidalgo County, Cameron County, Cities of Mission, Harlingen, Donna, etc...) to receive the input of the surrounding communities, municipalities, organizations, and entities. We understand this to be vital in the development of the preliminary alignment. Utilizing local input as well as engineering considerations is key in the alignment selection process.

Once the Route Studies have determined the alignment, a Schematic is developed and submitted for the proper review and evaluation of the proposed improvements. Schematics should show enough information (as set up by TxDOT's Schematic Guidelines Checklist) for the approving agency to be able to review essential items for the future design of the project.
